There is an optimum position that your horse's head should be in when feeding. When food is consumes in less than ideal positions your horse's health can suffer as a consequence. Dental problems can be caused by pooring eating positions. Waste hay is also reduced because hay no longer gets contaminated. This is because feeding forage from the floor costs more because there is more waste. As a result it becomes difficult to estimate how much hay to order because it is hard to judge how much waste is being produced and how much hay is actually being consumed. It is obviously very deterimental to a horse's health to consume contaminated food. Labour time and costs can also be saved by separating bedding, food and waste. Keeping things separate is much easier than sorting out hay that has been mixed when it should always have stayed separate in the first place. Mucking out becomes much easier when using a Hay Bar which helps to save time. It is just so much quicker to remove waste when everything is separated. The natural feeding position is easy to maintain which means that horse's dental problems can be reduced. Performance and health of horses is improved because horse owners know exactly how much feed is being given and taken by the animals. This helps manage the quantities of feed and leads to happy horses. The design is quite simple and every good Hay Bar should be robust enough to withstand everyday use. Has anyone used one of these? http://www.haybar.co.uk/Product%20info.html Henry has his hay on the floor as haynet are a lot of effort (for both of us!) and the tie ring is at the back of the stable so he'd be stood on the banks to eat. It's not a huge issue but a lot of the hay does end up in his bed which he'll eat if there's nothing left but more often than not I turn him out and muck him out before he has a chance to finish it. I just wondered about getting one of these or similar? Are there cheaper versions? Are they easy to fit? I also painted the lettering in gold to make it look better Jakes lasted ages but Dooley used to lean on his and didn't last very long at all, I don't know if there was a fault with his or not though as when I removed it from the wall it was more straight than rounded. They are quite expensive though for what it is, but it does save hay being mixed in with bedding and they look neat too A horse is your best friend, tell him anything and no one will ever know, but don't forget to listen to him too Reply With Quote 18-03-2010 05:24 PM #3 Lots View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message Like a Ninja...
