Heck I take lessons at a competitive barn but that doesn't even come close to meaning I'm interested in competing, even at a local level. It's just stating a fact: Beauty of horse and rider do count. And if you go in the ring 100#s overweight, it can and will count against you. That is just as true in 4H and local shows as is at Madison Square Garden. Having been heavy and also thin, I found that I ride one heck of a lot easier and my balance is far better IF I am not padded and my thighs can flatten out out against the saddle the way they need to. Trainers and instructors will take your money, but not always tell you what you need to do to win or to ride better. She may never find a 19 - 20" cc or AP in her price range, either. HDR Advantage only goes up to 18". There are Stubben APs out there in the 19" seat size but most will be 31 or 31.5cm, and may not be wide enough. Since when does seat size have only to do with weight? I'm 6' tall and I am not fat. .. My thigh measured while sitting from where it creases at the hip to my knee is almost 18.5" long. I've had two trainers tell me that's why I have trouble with saddle fit. My butt fits fine, but they say I ideally need a 19" saddle due to long thigh bone and I find I'm a lot more comfortable in a saddle that is at least 18.5" and particularly with a long flap. I am -very- uncomfortable in a 17" saddle. They make me feel like I'm sitting on the pommel and generally just off balance and I can't sit in one for longer than a couple minutes. height plays a roll too. Let's not make assumptions. If the need for the bigger seat is height, pay attention to flap length too. . The most comfy saddle I've ever sat in was an older Stubben Imperator, it was 18.5" seat. It was marvelous to ride in. WOW..and yu kow now that I have searched, I have foind 19,20's and for decent prices..I RIDE everyday, and in my aussie gear, english or western! I am a good rider, can prob stay on any bucking horse...here is a pic of me! what yu think of me??
