Not long after deciding to remove the front shoes I left home for a new job leaving my thoroughbred horse with my mum to retire. These boots are in almost new condition and a great buy for someone in search of these boots second-hand. I used another pair of Marquis boots for a few years on her hind feet and was very pleased with them. Mileage included roads, muddy forestry and stubble fields at the gallop! My main concern is the sole.. Is it too chunky for riding? I need boots that have a very good grip when walking but although I will mainly use them for yard work, I will need to be able to pop onto a horse every now and again, and would rather have boots that I don't have to change before doing that in fear of the sole not fitting on the stirrup or being so chunky it gets stuck. She bought the WW boots on the thought that they're good for yard duties and riding... but was really disappointed because they were too chunky for riding and got her foot caught in the stirrup. I have got a pair of similar boots from Robinsons - think they're by EL something, I can't find them on their website at the min but they're defo in the Autumn/Winter catalogue cos that's where I saw them. They cost £60 and have already, I think, paid for themselves. They're warm, got the velcro tabs so they fit really snugly round your calf, whether you're wearing jods or jeans and I find great for riding. I've had mine 3 years this xmas and they're still going strong. I've never had a problem riding in them, I've hacked, jumped and done dressage lessons in them and only noticed the difference when I'd been wearing my leather boots all summer. Admittedly as they're so padded, I didn't feel my leg was as effective but Ace and I both got used to them and they sure did keep my feet lovely and cosy! I'd definately recommend them! But i did a lot of walking in them, up & down the track to the farm at college, which caused the lining on the heels to wear away and with them being rubber, the heels actually split! Also love the reflective bit when bringing the horses in, in the dark. Can bung them in the washing machine and they come up like new....but, they don't keep your feet dry. As others have said, they let the wet come in where the foot joins the ankle - wet grass, mud, puddles, you name it,your feet get soaked. Well, you've seen my Ariats.. Although the sole wasn't as badly split as it is at the moment, I survived last winter wearing them apart from days when it was actually raining so hard there was an inch of water on the ground, then I put my wellies on and had frozen toes.. I need warm boots, I have no intention of wading in mud any deeper than couple of centimeters max so these should do, just as long as I can ride in them too..
